Prepare Him Room
The Christmas season has begun, and with it the flurry of preparation. Whether you’re decorating, cleaning the house for guests, buying and wrapping presents, baking, or travelling, Christmas takes preparation.
It also takes preparation for our hearts to really appreciate what we’re celebrating. There’s a reason the author of “Joy to the World” urges, “Let every heart prepare Him room.”
Christmas is a season when we tend to have more clutter than normal in our hearts. Whether stress or delight, joy or longing, too much to do, or time off to fill up, we often push aside the most important part of Christmas: Christ.
This year in particular, Christmas may look completely different than we’re used to. For many of us, it will be even easier than normal to get distracted or fall prey to the uncertainty that constantly swirls around us.
In such troubled times, the one thing that will truly prepare our hearts to celebrate the birth of Christ is to get close to Him.
After all, it is Christ who said,
“Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For My yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)
So, as we embark upon this most joyous of seasons, I encourage you to heed the Savior’s invitation to come to Him. Take time to seek Him, to learn of Him, and to let Him prepare you to celebrate His birth with a worshipful heart.
