Not Like Me
Even though the worship of physical idols is less prevalent now than in ancient times, idolatry is just as rampant as it ever was. So how do we tell if something is an idol?
Abundantly Sufficient
Have you ever noticed how many times the word “all” appears in 2 Corinthians 9:8? It used to strike me as annoyingly repetitive: all grace, all sufficiency, all things… but that’s really the point.
Never a Waste
1 Corinthians 7 is a passage which has become very familiar to me over the years, but recently, as I was reading it in my daily time with God something jumped out at me for the very first time.
What is That to Thee?
Peter had been having a deep conversation with Jesus, in which He challenged Peter’s love for Him, and told him to demonstrate that love by serving others. Then Jesus said, “Follow Me.” Peter turned around and saw John following, and asked “Lord, and what shall this man do?” (v.21) Here is Jesus’ response:
Trusting God Through Affliction
When we are experiencing affliction of any kind, it can be easy for our view of who God is to become distorted. So how can we stay close to God during a trial? Psalm 119:75-76 shows us the trusting response of a heart close to God through its time of affliction.
Certainty in the Midst of Chaos
When we look around this world and all we see is uncertainty, instability, and chaos, what’s an anxious Christian to do? Look to the only source of certainty: God Himself.
Set Apart
Sometimes, singleness feels like being set aside or left out. But the truth is, the single Christian within the will of God is not set aside, but set apart.
A Heart Prepared
Growing up, we always had a garden, and I learned early on that before you could plant anything, the soil had to be prepared. God tells us in the book of Hosea that our hearts need to be prepared, just like the soil in a garden or field.
There is a God in Heaven: Boldness in the Midst of Babylon
Daniel was captured and taken to a far away land whose culture was built upon the worship of many false gods. But Daniel did more than just survive, keeping low under the religious radar.
